Seward, Alaska
As I walked around a blind corner back towards my car, I was surprised, delighted and a bit nervous to see a momma moose and her darling calf strolling down the road. Loose white hairs covered momma’s molting gray coat; the copper-brown calf shone in its brand-new coat.
I stopped and waved. They stopped and stared; the momma with suspicion, the baby with curiosity. Two alert pairs of eyes and radar ears swiveled towards me, calculating the risk level. Fortunately, she did not perceive me as a threat and both wandered off, melting into the woods.
Happy Birding!
