Seward, Alaska
A beautiful day for a bike ride out Exit Glacier Road. The gate at Box Canyon is still closed for the winter, but the road is clear out to just past the Resurrection River bridge at the boundary of Kenai Fjords National Park. Then, it’s a slushy snow slog to the end.
The “telephone ring” of VARIED THRUSHES joined the zipper-up calls of PINE SISKINS and raspberry buzzes of COMMON REDPOLLS. I passed busy CHICKADEES and heard the drumming of a Woodpecker. A noisy flock of Gulls passed overhead.
Notably absent were Ruby-crowned Kinglets, another early migrant that will be here soon.
Exit Glacier wore a resplendent snowy coat; it was so wonderful to see it again, surrounded by spectacular snowy mountains, hanging glaciers, and avalanche chutes.
If you visit “your” National Park, the trails are open, but the Nature Center, public use cabins, and restrooms will remain closed due to Covid-19 until further notice.
Happy Birding!
