Seward, Alaska
More ARCTIC TERNS arrived since yesterday; their raspy cries filled the air on their nearshore patrols. They rumble and rev their engines like souped-up race cars, then pirouette, hover, and dive; sleek Porsches compared to the clunky Chevy Gulls.
Several plucked small fish from an anadromous stream mouth, possibly pink or chum salmon fry. I didn’t see any with stickleback-sized fish, but that is possible too.
Fresh green shoots of beach rye grass and iris poked up through last year’s soggy remnants. The wetlands wait for the next group of hungry migrants, as do we all. Maybe it will rain Cranes!
Happy Birding!
